Publication date: 29th October 2013 by Harlequin Teen | 304 pages | The Iron Traitor

In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.

After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as “normal” as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he’s forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, “normal” simply isn’t to be. For Ethan’s nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan’s and Keirran’s fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan’s next choice may decide the fate of them all.

Review: 5 STARS

YESS another Julie Kagawa book that I adore! SO GOOD. If you haven’t already heard me rave about The Iron Fey series or the new spin-off series, The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, then where have you been? These books are amazing! Julie Kagawa has created a magical, stunning, adventure packed and entertaining world that I cannot get enough of! This newest book, The Iron Traitor, is another great addition to these stories. It’s packed full of even more new and increasingly insane adventures that had me reading all night. I LOVE THESE BOOKS.

This is a unique story where we get to see two love stories unfold in the one book. Both romances have a lot of similarities, like both boys are in love with a girl who is dying and have very protective natures. But Ethan and Keirran are very different in the way they approach this love and how they protect Kenzie and Annwyl. Keirran’s love for Annwyl is much like Ash’s love for Meghan was; he will do anything to protect her and to save her from her unfortunate fate no matter what the consequences are. While Ethan is also very overprotective, he’s more focused on being with her now than saving her from a fate he has no control over. I really enjoyed this! I found it very interesting to see the boys in such similar situations but approaching it so differently and the consequences that came from their decisions.

“You can’t save everyone. Sometimes, you have to make the decision to let them go.”

For awhile now, I’ve been reading a lot of YA literature where the guy is almost selfish in his love for the girl. He will do anything to be with her and anything to make sure she’s protected, no matter the cost to himself or others. This is what Keirran’s love for Annwyl is and I loved that in this story we finally get to see the negative consequences of what such a selfish, all consuming love can have.  Keirran is about to bring the world crashing down around him and make everything a whole lot worse because he’s unable to let go. We even see the consequences that Ash’s actions had on the world. Not that I don’t still love Keirran (and Ash), because I do, but his crazy recklessness is out of control. At this point I kind of hope that Annwyl will die in the end, she’s had a really long and full life and maybe it’s her time to go! Although right now I have no idea what Julie is going to do in the next book because that ending was so intense! Can’t wait to find out how the story continues to unfold though. Also I LOVE that all three teenagers have parents in this book! Yes, it makes things complicated but also a lot more realistic (well as realistic as you can get in Fairyland).

Now back to the ending…

The. Cliffhanger.

supernatural-mouths-openomgzkJULIE THAT ENDING IS MEAN. When is the next book released!? SOON?! PLEASE LET IT BE SOON!!

… Well I just checked and bad news, the next book doesn’t even have a cover yet! So I have no idea when the next one will be here, except that it will be some time in 2014… Kind of want to cry now.

I received an e-copy of this book Harlequin Teen via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Massive thanks to them for approving this request because it was EPIC.
